TOKYO, JAPAN — January 25, 2021
Pearson VUE, the global leader in computer-based testing, has announced today an expanded multi-year agreement with SHL-Japan. The new test delivery partnership will enable university students across Japan to use OnVUE to kick-start their early career paths.
SHL-Japan is a Tokyo-based company focussed on talent measurement, providing a range of training courses and personnel assessment services which include aptitude and personality tests, used by some of Japan’s largest companies.
One of its aptitude tests is specifically designed to assess the analytical, logical and mathematical skills of students as they start out in their careers. With a range of question formats including multiple-choice, diagrams and graphics, the test evaluates the applicant’s aptitude and suitability for an entry-level job.
Pearson VUE is already our valued partner for high-quality test delivery. By now offering this important test with OnVUE, we can better support our clients in their recruitment of the very best talent. Candidates will also be able to fulfil their potential, through the accessibility and flexibility that online proctoring provides.

As the job market becomes increasingly competitive and employers place an even greater emphasis on specific skillsets, SHL-Japan’s new agreement with Pearson VUE will streamline the recruitment process for many of its clients. From today, as well as being able to take their exam at a Pearson VUE Test Center (PVTC), test-takers will also have the option of taking their aptitude test remotely. OnVUE online proctoring will enable SHL-Japan’s candidates to take their exam from the comfort of their own home while being monitored by an offsite proctor through a webcam. All communication with the proctor for the test will be done in Japanese, with a Japanese-speaking proctor. In addition to providing students greater flexibility around taking their exam, companies will be able to assess more students, since candidates might prefer to take their test online (rather than travelling to a test center).
Masaki Sanjo, Director, SHL-Japan, said: “Pearson VUE is already our valued partner for high-quality test delivery. By now offering this important test with OnVUE, we can better support our clients in their recruitment of the very best talent. Candidates will also be able to fulfil their potential, through the accessibility and flexibility that online proctoring provides.”
Tetsu Ikeda, Vice President, Pearson VUE Japan, said “We are honored that we are able to provide at-home testing for university students in addition to our current test center capabilities in Japan. By offering new ways for candidates to test, companies which depend on SHL-Japan’s aptitude test can continue their talent selection without being interrupted by the global pandemic.”
